This term we are learning about the Stone Age, this will thread into our English lessons, using The Croods animated film as one of our stimuli and a story called stone Age boy to inspire our fiction work. Another picture book about a woolly mammoth will inspire our non fiction work.
Our topic is Roald Dahl this term, so for English we will hear many of his stories and find out a little about his life. We will do a large unit of work on The BFG, using the original cartoon film alongside the book. We will also study the Magic Finger and write our own stories in the same style.
Weekly spelling, punctuation and grammar teaching and spelling tests will continue to consolidate the requirements for year four.
This term's topic will be Mountains and we will base some of our English work on this. We will cover different genres of writing such as: instructions, non chronological reports and narrative.
We will have specific teaching in the areas of Spelling and Punctuation and Grammar in order to understand the rules and concepts needed for year four.
Weekly spelling tests will assess how well the children have learned the various rules and patterns, we will also have regular dictation including the words learned so far to practice words in context.
