Autumn Term 1

 Our Learning

We have been learning about refugees and have based our learning on Onjali Rauf's 'The Boy at the Back of the Class.' This book was a powerful story about friendship and kindness which explored some of our school values too. we explored a variety of different writing genres: descriptions of exotic fruit, non-chrological report on refugees and we even wrote a letter to the Prime Minister to ask him to do more for refugees.

We have also wrote our own Autumnal poems using figurative language. We created new displays in our classroom and even in the corridor to showcase our work!

We have focused this term on: place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

Our Topic this term is 'Around the World'. We have been using maps and atlases to locate continents, oceans, the hemispheres, tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, equator, latitude and longitude. We have also completed fact files on Italy and Russia. We learned about all of the different counties in the UK and located their cites.

This term, we have been learning about the life journey of Hindus and how they live thier lives. We have explored what Hindu's believe, rites of passage, influential people and what religion means to religious people.

So far this term, we have learned about how plants and animals are adapted to thier environments as our topic is 'Evolution and Inheritance'.

As our topic is 'Around the World', we have learned about artists from different continents. We have created self portraits in the style of Frida Kahlo, re-created the Mona Lisa and explored Kandinsky's artwork to create a new display.
