Class Information
Homework
It is suggested that you spend around 1 hour per week completing homework with your child. If you find that you are unable to complete the homework within this time, please do not feel that you must exceed this time.
On Friday there will usually be two pieces of homework. These will be Maths and SPaG which will be linked to that week's learning.
Please could this be returned by the following Thursday.
Spellings
Your child will be tested on their spellings every Thursday. New spellings will then given out for the following week. Once spellings have been learned, children are encouraged to use these words in context by writing them in a sentence. It's vital that children understand the meaning behind these words.
Mental Maths
Your child will take part in a speed challenge every Friday to encourage quick recall of number facts and calculate various different calculations at speed. Your child will also be set times tables to be learned for a test every Friday.
Reading
Your child will be heard read at least once a week in school by an adult, either as part of group reading or individually. Children are asked to read at least 4 x per week, as in the school policy. It is important for your child to read aloud to you, even if they are competent readers, so that you can question their understanding of what they have read. If your child is told they are 'free reading' they can choose to read their own books and keep them at home, or choose from books in school. School reading books will be changed when needed.
Please spend a little time talking with your child about the book and what has happened so far, what they predict might happen next, and check their understanding of the text.
P.E Kit
P.E will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays. Please ensure that your child arrives in school wearing their kit on these days.
Please feel free to come and see me if you have any concerns or questions, I will be happy to help.
Thank you
