Maths

During this term, the maths topics we will be covering are :

Properties of shape - children will learn to measure angles and draw angles accurately. Lengths and angles in shapes will be calculated in both regular and irregular shapes.

Geometry - Position and Direction - children will use an axis and learn about symmetry, translation and reflection.

Measurement - children will learn to calculate using km, kg, ml and mm. They will convert between imperial and metric measurements. We will work on time and reading and interpreting timetables. Children will also calculate and solve problems involving volume.

Throughout the year we will continue to build on the children's knowledge of times tables and division facts. We will do this weekly in two different ways. On a Wednesday, the children will complete a 'Monster Maths Challenge'. This is a timed activity where the children answer as many multiplication and division questions as they can in a given time. When the children get full marks, they are able to move on to the next sheet the following week. The questions get progressively harder as the children move through the sheets. Speed is the key!

The second way is the more traditional times tables test, which takes place on a Friday. The children move through the tables at their own pace. When they get 12/12 they move on to the next table.
