During this term the maths topics we will be working on are :
Place Value - At the heart of maths lies place value. We will be working on being able to read, write, order, know the place value of, compare and round numbers up to 1,000,000.
Addition and Subtraction - The children will be using column method for adding and subtracting 4 digit numbers with exchanges.
Statistics - We will begin a unit of work on statistics, focussing on being able to read and interpret charts and line graphs.
Throughout the year we will continue to build on the children's knowledge of times tables and division facts. We will do this weekly in two different ways. On a Wednesday, the children will complete a 'Monster Mental Maths' sheet. This is a timed activity where the children answer as many multiplication and division questions as they can in a given time. When the children get full marks, they are able to move on to the next sheet the following week. The questions get progressively more difficult as the children move through the sheets. Speed is the key!
The second is a more traditional times tables test every Friday. The children move at their own pace through the tables. When they get 12/12, they move on to the next table.
