Maths

Year 3 and Year 4 are working on a very similar curriculum. We do our inputs together, with slightly different questions for each year group. The work we complete is similar but Year 4 have slightly harder questions to complete.

Firstly, we learn about place value in great depth. We need to have a good understanding of place value, so we can access other parts of the curriculum, so it is vital that we do this first and do it well!

Then, we work on a range of methods to help us with addition and subtraction.

Multiplication and division follows, accessing a range of strategies. It's impressive what we can do! A solid understanding of our times tables helps us with both multiplication and division.

We use these skills to help us with scaling and statistics.

We complete a 5 minute times tables quiz every Thursday, to ensure we know them well and can do them quickly. This is important for many aspects in Maths, so will help us all year.

Fractions! We learn that fractions aren't as scary as they seem. We add fractions, subtract fractions and even find equivalent fractions... about two thirds of the time.

It's time... Year 3 practise telling the time on a digital 24 hour clock and an analogue clock. We can work out what time an event starts or finishes depending on how long it took. Even though it seems confusing, we become skilled at telling the time (to the closest minute!)
