During this term the maths topics we will be covering are :
Statistics - the children will learn how to read, interpret and draw line graphs and then be able to use them to solve problems. Also, we will be learning how to read and interpret tables, including timetables.
Multiplication and Division - children will learn about multiples and factors, including common factors. They will work on their knowledge of prime numbers, square and cube numbers. Also, we will recap on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000.
Perimeter and Area - children will learn how to measure, calculate and find the perimeter of rectangles and rectilinear shapes. we will also find the area of rectangles, compound shapes and irregular shapes.
Throughout the year we will continue to build on the children's knowledge of times tables and division facts. We will do this weekly in two different ways. On a Wednesday, the children will complete a 'Monster Maths Challenge'. This is a timed activity where the children answer as many multiplication and division questions as they can in a given time. When the children get full marks, they are able to move on to the next sheet the following week. The questions get progressively harder as the children move through the sheets. Speed is the key!
The second way is the more traditional times tables test, which takes place on a Friday. The children move through the tables at their own pace. When they get 12/12 they move on to the next table.
