Phonics is an important technique taught to help children with reading and spelling by breaking down words into different sounds that children can identify in words. This enables children to sound out words to spell them.
In Year 2, children move onto looking at a various different techniques. This includes: homophones, suffixes, past tense, prefixes, spelling techniques, syllables and possessive apostrophes.
