Summer 1

Lower Key Stage 2 Newsletter – Summer 2025

Spring 2 Highlights

“Year 3 attended International Day at Caistor Yarbrough where we had fun learning Spanish, and Spanish culture-specifically the Day of the Dead Festival. We cooked yummy fajitas with chicken and peppers and learned about Mexico.

Year 4 visited for an art and music day where we cut out and collaged an image of a face, mixing up the features, we played pianos and guitars, and created an under the sea collage with new paper cutting techniques we hadn’t done before.

In school, we’ve played glow in dark dodgeball.”

Reminders for Summer Term

Children should bring a drink of water to school in a named bottle.

Please ensure that any clothing is named – then it can be returned to your child should it be lost.

Any break time snacks should be healthy ones please.

Please remember that children are not allowed to bring toys to school, this includes trading cards or stickers – it causes upset if they are lost or broken.

Children will be responsible for telling an adult when their books need changing, and an adult will help them select the correct one for their stage.

Children don’t need their own stationery in class, it is all provided.

Reading diaries will be given to each child to log their progress and will be due in each Monday to log the number of reads each child has achieved the previous week. Children are expected to read at least 4 times a week at home.

Hopefully the weather will start to get warmer, so if the forecast is hot, please apply sunscreen, and send named sunhats in to school.

PE

Hedgehog – Monday and Friday

Badger – Monday and Thursday

Woodpecker – Monday and Thursday

Some lessons will take place outdoors, weather permitting, please ensure appropriate P.E. kit is worn.

Children can access their weekly spellings on Spelling Shed, these will be tested each Monday.

Homework is used as a reminder and retrieval practise for the 4 operations which will be used often in class. It is really important children are constantly practising these skills by completing their homework. There are teaching videos on the website to help with the methods that we teach in school:

https://www.scotter.lincs.sch.uk/teaching-videos-2/

Homework will be set on a Friday, due in the following Friday.

Class Dojo is used to communicate with parents and there is also a ‘contact the teacher’ form on the class page on the website.  Please keep an eye on the class page on the website for updates and learning taking place in the class.
