Welcome to Fox Class. We are a class of Year 5 children who are taught by Miss Mumby.  We are helped by Miss. Ferguson.

This page is where you can find important information, as well as updates of the fun things we are getting up to in class.

We are part of UKS2  and therefore learn closely with the rest of Year 5 and 6 in Kestrel and Kingfisher Class. PE is on Monday and Friday. Please come to school wearing your PE kit on these days and dressed appropriately for the weather should we be outside. 

Children will practise the statutory spellings in class but no formal spelling test will be administered. Homework will be given out on Fridays and will be due in the following Thrusday. If you need any extra support with homework please send a message or ask your child to come speak to us and we can provide them with extra support.

Fox, Kestrel and Kingfisher Class Newsletter – Autumn Term 2026

A huge warm welcome back! I hope you have had a relaxing and fun filled summer break and feel ready for the exciting term ahead.

Reminders for Autumn Term 2026

Books will be changed when needed. Children will need to place their reading diary and book in the changing basket in the classroom.

Each day, children will need suitable uniform according to the weather, water bottles containing water only, healthy snacks for break, reading book and their reading bookmark every day.

The children will not need to bring in additional stationery or pencil cases as this equipment will be provided.

Please be reminded that toys should be left at home.

PE for Kingfisher will be on Tuesday and Thursday and PE for Fox and Kestrel will be on Monday and Friday. Children are to come to school in their PE kit and trainers on these days to avoid the need to change in school.

Class Dojo is still being used to communicate with parents and there is a contact the teacher form on the class page on the website for you to be able to contact us directly.

Curriculum Focus for Autumn Term 2026

Our Geography project this term will be ‘what is trade and how can it be fair?’

Year 5 Maths – understand tenths, compose and calculate with decimals, understand hundredths, solve problems with decimals and negative numbers

Year 5 KIRFS - I know the multiplication and division facts for all the times tables up to 12 x 12

Year 6 Maths – part-whole structures, equivalence and compensation, addition and subtraction problems, multiples of 1000.

Year 6 KIRFS - Multiply and divide whole numbers by 10,100, 1000.

English – We will be ‘writing to entertain’ and ‘writing to inform’ using our Science topic as a stimulus for writing.

Science – We will be exploring evolution and inheritance – ‘what is meant by evolution and inheritance?’

RE – Our big question is ‘How do people know who or what to believe?’

PE – We will be working on gymnastics and netball.

Art – Children will base their artwork on their Geography work this term. We will be learning about a key artist called Dennis Wojtkiewicz. We will be using watercolour pencils and creating art in his style.

Computing – communication and collaboration.

PHSE – Our big question is ‘How can I support my mind and body as I grow?’

French - We will be learning about a French town and what language would be needed to go shopping in France.

Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd September – INSET days for staff – school closed to pupils

Thursday 3rd September – Children return to school

Friday 25th September – Macmillan Coffee morning, 10 – 11:30am

Wednesday 21st October – Parents Evening

Thursday 22nd October – Parents Evening

Friday 23rd October – Last day of Autumn term one

As we have learnt, the best made plans sometimes need to change. The above dates may need to be altered but we will do our best to communicate any necessary changes as soon as we are aware.
