Class Information

Homework

It is suggested that you spend around 1 hour per week completing homework, including reading, with your child.  If you find that you are unable to complete the homework within this time, please do not feel that you must exceed this time.

Spellings

Your child will be tested on their spellings every Friday.  New spellings will then be stuck into their homework book and shared on class dojo.  Once they have learnt their spellings your child can use the page in the book to practise using that spelling in a sentence, if you have time.

Reading

Your child will be heard read at least once a week in school by an adult as part of group reading.  Children are asked to read 4 x per week, as in the school policy. It is important for your child to read aloud to you, even if they are competent readers, so that you can question their understanding of what they have read. School has recently bought  a lot more books at a higher level, so your child may stay on the scheme books for longer.  If your child is told they are 'free reading' they can choose to read their own books and keep them at home, or choose from books in school.

School reading books will be changed daily at the beginning of lunchtime.  Please ensure that your child's book is in school every day.

Please spend a little time talking with your child about the book and what has happened so far, what they predict might happen next, and check their understanding of the text.

Other Homework

On Friday there will usually be a piece of either topic, science, literacy or maths based work for your child to complete or research relating to what has been learnt or will be learned in class.

Please could this be returned by the following Friday.

P.E Kit

P.E will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Please ensure that your child arrives in school wearing their kit on these days.

Please feel free to come and see me if you have any concerns or questions, I will be happy to help.

Thank you
